WPT Nonwovens is expanding operations at its Beaver Dam facility and hiring 12 additional employees to meet growing demand tied to the artificial intelligence boom, company officials announced this week.
The Kentucky-based manufacturer produces advanced nonwoven materials used inside fiber-optic cables — a critical component of the ultra-fast networks that power massive AI data centers around the world.
“These AI engines rely on ultra-fast, ultra-reliable fiber-optic networks to function,” said Travis Robbins, president of WPT Nonwovens. “Our materials help protect and stabilize the cables that move massive amounts of data across the country and around the world.”
Robbins said projects like Meta’s Hyperion and Prometheus initiatives are reshaping digital infrastructure and fueling the need for more than 8 million miles of fiber-optic cable. WPT’s materials are embedded in those cables, playing a behind-the-scenes role in supporting global connectivity and machine-learning systems.
Robbins, who lives in Owensboro, said the company’s continued growth is creating new local opportunities.
“As demand for fiber-optic infrastructure continues to grow, we’re proud to support global technology platforms while creating jobs right here in Kentucky,” Robbins said.
Founded in 2008, WPT Nonwovens also serves the medical, hygiene, industrial, and filtration sectors. Robbins said the company is actively reviewing options for further expansion and remains committed to innovation in nonwovens manufacturing.
“From Beaver Dam to the forefront of AI infrastructure, WPT Nonwovens is proving that innovation isn’t limited to the coasts,” Robbins said. “It’s being built right here in Kentucky — and this story is just getting started.”
