John Ross Martin has entered the race for Owensboro City Commissioner, saying he will run on a platform focused on infrastructure, public safety, and long-term economic growth.

Martin, 31, is an Owensboro native and local realtor. Recently, he’s led efforts to restore and redevelop properties in the downtown area. After working in corporate leadership, he shifted his focus to neighborhood revitalization and real estate development.

“Owensboro isn’t just where I live,” Martin said. “It’s the city I’ve chosen to invest in and help lead forward.”

Over the past several years, Martin said he has worked on redevelopment projects across Kentucky and brought that same approach back to his hometown. He added that his experience blending commercial and residential real estate helps him better understand the needs of property owners, business leaders, and neighborhoods.

“I’m not just listing properties — I’m actively rebuilding them,” he said. “People trust me because I invest where I serve. I take pride in transparency, quality, and long-term vision for our community.”

If elected, Martin said he would prioritize strengthening core city services like roads, sewers, and public facilities. He also wants to support workforce development by aligning education and skilled trades programs with employer needs.

“Leadership isn’t about politics,” he said. “It’s about stewardship and doing what’s right for Owensboro.”

Martin said he supports a fiscally responsible approach to infrastructure and energy improvements, with an emphasis on public safety and economic stability.

He described his campaign as one rooted in accountability and results, adding that his track record shows a long-standing commitment to Owensboro’s future.
