Thomas Edward Tivitt

Thomas Edward Tivitt, age 88 of Hardinsburg, KY, passed away at his residence on June 7, 2025. Tom was born in Hardinsburg, KY on August 16, 1936, one of six children born to the late Alfred “Slim” and Mabel Roberts Tivitt. Tom attended Freedom Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked in law enforcement with the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Department from 1982 to 2001. He served as Chief Deputy as well as Court Security during this time. He was a board member with the Breckinridge Bluegrass Music Association, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association and he and his wife Jeanette worked as Park Attendants at Rough River State Park for 15 years.

Tom was a kind, caring man who never met a stranger. He always looked for the best in everyone. He grew up in a very large family with many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved family outings. He and Jeanette enjoyed camping and visited the lower 48 states. He was the jokester of the family who kept you laughing and was quite the storyteller, always keeping you on the edge of your seat. His family said he was the “King of the Weedeater” because during the summer months he could always be found with one in his hand. On any given day, he could be found weedeating his yard, the farm, cemetery, the neighbor’s property or the roadway. He loved his family, and they adored him. He and Jeanette married on February 14, 1959, and shared a life of love, happiness and fun times.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his siblings Doug Tivitt, Rufus Tivitt (Betty Carroll), Gracie Driskell (Donald), and Anna Mildred Burnette (Roger).

Tom is survived by Jeanette, his wife of 66 years.
