Boyce E. Cornelius

Boyce E. Cornelius, 85, of Philpot, passed away on June 7, 2025, while under the compassionate care of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital while listening to Patsy Cline. He was born on July 21, 1939, in Russellville, Kentucky, to the late Charles Harrison and Beatrice Scott Cornelius.

Boyce began his professional journey as a truck driver with the Clark Restaurant Service, where he worked for 20 years. After retiring from trucking, he pursued his lifelong passion for horse training. Over the years, he trained and owned horses, working at well-known tracks, including Ellis Park, Churchill Downs, and various venues across the country. He continued in the horse racing profession until his retirement in 2019.

His love for animals went far beyond horses; he had a love for all creatures, especially dogs and cats. Boyce also enjoyed golfing and shared that passion with the love of his life, Susan, even teaching her to play golf and to love cats almost as much as he did.

A devoted University of Kentucky basketball fan, Boyce also found joy in watching classic movies and Westerns. He was a dedicated reader with a particular interest in American history, especially the lives and presidencies of U.S. leaders.

Boyce will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, passion, and spirit leave a lasting legacy.

In addition to his parents, Boyce was preceded in death by his brothers, Terrel Cornelius and Richard Cornelius.

He is survived by his beloved partner of 25 years, Susan Lester; sons, Todd Cornelius (Jennifer), Tim Cornelius, and Darrell Howard; daughter, Lisa Beeler (Mike); grandchildren, Jesse and Josey Cornelius; brother, Roger Cornelius (Connie); sister, Barbara Jean Bullington; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews

Visitation for Boyce will be from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
