James Robert Grant, III, 85, of Owensboro, passed away on June 10, 2025. He was born, on April 8, 1940, to the late James Robert Grant, II and Alberta (Gaw) Grant.
A lifelong farmer, James dedicated over 50 years to working the land he loved. As a part of Grant Farms, he found joy not only in the fields but in the fellowship that came with it. James had a deep love for farming—especially raising cattle—and at one time grew tobacco with the same steady devotion. A man who appreciated life’s quieter moments, he was often found enjoying hamburgers from Big Dipper or savoring a sausage biscuit from McDonald’s. He loved sports and never missed a chance to enjoy a good game. Above all, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest pride. James was a devoted member of the Catholic faith.
Along with his parents, James is preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen, Jody, and John Grant, and his sisters, Sara Thomas and Patsy Hartz.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kim (Tony) Nowak, of Rockport, IN, and Bobby (Amber) Grant, of Owensboro, KY; his grandchildren, Ryan (Meagan) Nowak, Bret (Brandie) Nowak, Alyssa (Walker) Franklin, Evan Grant, and Kathryn Grant; four great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Margaret (George) Grant Frey and Rachel (Jim) Grant Roth.
Services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends and family are invited to visitation, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A private family burial, at Resurrection Cemetery, will take place at a later date.
