Sue Louise Dowell, age 83 of Harned, KY passed away June 23, 2025, at Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital. She was born in Breckinridge County on October 10, 1941, daughter of the late Roy and Rhoda Wardrip Shartzer.
Sue was a homemaker who loved her family and doing all the things that a homemaker does. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cross stitching. She raised a big garden and spent hours canning vegetables. Her made from scratch angel food cakes were to die for. Watching Survivor on TV and working jigsaw puzzles kept her busy. She enjoyed watching U of K basketball and occasionally U of L, but always cheered blue. She loved animals, especially her collie Cindy, who was her constant companion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Hazel Brown, Mary Ann Willis, Bonnie Cowherd, Connie Drake, Brenda Ramsey, Betty Peters and Larry Shartzer.
Sue is survived by her husband Paul Dowell.
2 children: Roy Franklin “Frankie” Dowell (Oveta) and Darlene “Kitten” Noe (Brett)
7 grandchildren: Christina Sanders (Adam), DePaul Dowell (Alayna), Elizabeth Stivers (Mark), Catherine Dowell, Caroline Roberts (Cody); Marcus Noe (Liz), Fran Noe (Michael)
11 great grandchildren: Emmalee Sanders, Audrey Sanders, Rhiley Sanders, Bastian Dowell, Westley Stivers, Wyatt Stivers, Kayson Roberts and Lincoln Roberts; Kerri Stivers, Dalton Stivers (Diamond) and Gavin Noe
1 great-great grandson: Otto Stivers
4 brothers: Bobby Shartzer, David Shartzer, Tommy Shartzer and Jessie Shartzer
2 sisters: Ida Mae Duncan and Jeanie VanName
Many nieces, nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 1 PM with burial in the New Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, 4-8 PM and Friday after 8 AM. All times are central.
