Sandra "Sandy" Leigh Millay

April 21, 1963 - July 2, 2025

Sandra “Sandy” Leigh Millay, 62, went to her heavenly home on the morning of July 2, 2025. Born on April 21, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Sandy was the cherished daughter of the late Virginia (Small) Millay and William Don Millay. She lived a life full of grace, compassion, and love. She found joy in the simple things and had an extraordinary ability to make everyone around her feel like her favorite. She was truly the glue that held her family together—someone they could all count on for support, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Over her 62 years, Sandy held many meaningful titles: Daughter, Sister, Aunt Nano, Niece, Cousin, Co-worker, Foster Mom, and Friend. But her most treasured role was simply being “Mom.” She lovingly opened her heart and home to over a dozen foster children, treating each one as her own. Even before becoming a mother, she practiced on her nieces and nephews—spoiling them with affection that never faded.

Sandy devoted over 40 years of her life to Old Hickory BBQ, where she became a beloved face to countless customers and formed lifelong friendships with coworkers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and William Don Millay, and several beloved fur babies; Champ, Trixie, Dixie, Daisy, Rudy, and Chloe.

Sandy is survived by her pride and joy, her son Jay Millay, as well as her later-in-life children, Aubrey and Matthew Millay. She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Lawson (Kenny) and Julie Fulton (Keith); and a host of nieces and nephews whom she adored as her own, Kenny, Jeremy, Melissa, Jennifer, Donnie, Cody, Terry, Timmy, Lexi, Donta, Chelsey, Justin, Ashton, Courtney, Kaylee, Giuliana, Audrina, and Emmy. She leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large extended family who loved her dearly. Sandy’s loving fur baby, Ziggy, also survives her, continuing to carry her love and companionship.

Her closest and most devoted friend, Debbie Peak, remained by her side through all of life’s seasons especially the last year she was there every step of the way. Her family couldn’t be more thankful for her presence in Sandy’s life and as their own. Also, a friend David “Mouse” Clark who was there for many years.

Per Sandy’s wishes, there will be no open funeral service, and she will be cremated. In her own words, she didn’t want anyone “looking over her.” A visitation to celebrate her life will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.

Sandy’s loving presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is now at eternal rest—a well-deserved peace we all know she truly loved.
