Judy Alexander Greenwell

November 25, 1941 - July 20, 2025

Judy Alexander Greenwell

Judy Alexander Greenwell, 83, of Owensboro, KY, passed away on July 20, 2025, surrounded by her family and friends.

Judy often referred to herself as “the good one”-a loving (and only slightly tongue-in-cheek) way to make sure she wasn’t confused with her sister-in-law who shared her name.

Born on November 25, 1941, to the late William “Buck” and Elizabeth Alexander, Judy brought her quick wit, strong faith, and fierce heart into everything she did.

She is survived by her husband of 58-sometimes very long years, Richard Greenwell. Judy was the proud and loving mom of Cary (Kim Harris) Greenwell, Kim (Jason Buchanan) Crowe, Jennifer (Mike Mayfield) Greenwell, Alex (Cathy) Greenwell, Madison (Jonathan) Lee and Patricia Carol Brenzel. She also leaves behind her beloved brother Larry “Boot” (Mary) Alexander and a crew of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who all adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donnie Alexander.

Judy was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, volunteered for years with Right to Life, and was an active servant of Al-Anon, where she supported countless families with her empathy, humor, and insight (and maybe a few eye-rolls when needed).

She was a wonderful conversationalist—funny, thoughtful, and never one to rush a good chat. Whether catching up with an old friend or getting to know someone new,

Judy made people feel like they mattered. She loved fiercely. She was wise, warm, stubborn in the best way, and deeply funny—often without even trying.

Her greatest joys were her family, her friends, her lake days and telling a good story. She especially loved attending every game, recital, performance, or event her grandchildren were involved in-cheering them on with pride, a smile and occasionally a slightly too loud comment from the stands. She showed up, always-and that mattered more than words can say.

She had a gift for making people feel seen, for offering exactly the right advice—or at least a sarcastic comment to get you through. She was truly one of a kind.

We’ll miss her laugh, her candor, her care, and her presence. We’ll carry her voice with us always: lovingly honest, occasionally blunt, and full of heart.
