
William “Willie” Edward Gillaspie, 65, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, July 24,2025 at his home. He was born in Daviess County on October 18, 1959, to the late William “Bill” and Helen (Shain) Gillaspie.
A member of First Baptist Church, Willie was a man of deep faith and strong principles. He proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating courage, discipline, and a deep commitment to his country. After his service, he continued to make an impact in his community as the chairman of his local Alcoholics Anonymous group, offering guidance and support to others in their recovery journey. Known for his love of the outdoors, Willie found joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time under the open sky. He also had a passion for working on cars, always ready to get under the hood and lend a hand to anyone in need. More than anything, he cherished being with family—whether at a family gathering, a holiday celebration, or simply enjoying a meal out together.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Charlie Gillaspie, Mary Cooney and Judy Hagan.
Willie is survived by his children, Willie Joe (Maggie) Gillaspie, Justin Gillaspie, and Kelsey Boaz; his grandchildren, Bailey, Christian, Samuel, David, Summer Gillaspie; 4 great grandchildren; along with his siblings Julie Mitchell, Nancy (Bill) Bolton, Bobby (Paula) Gillaspie, Ray (Ruth) Gillaspie, Larry (Theresa) Gillaspie and Jimmy (Beverly) Gillaspie.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Rosehill- Elmwood Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visitation, at the funeral home, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
