
Hubert Dester “Junior” Hurm, 79, of Knottsville, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 26, 1945, in Rome, Kentucky to the late Hubert John and Corrine Agnes Ralph Hurm, Junior lived a life full of warmth, humor, and dedication to his family and his community.
Junior is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Anthony Eugene Hurm; and sisters, Mary Martha Rysdyk, Ester Caroline Craig, and Elizabeth Ann Hurm.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Joyce Ann Montgomery Hurm; devoted children, Brian Keith (Norma) Hurm of Philpot, Sherry Lynn (Mark) Wright of Knottsville, Timothy Shane (Laura) Hurm of Owensboro, and Daisy Marie Hallmark of Whitesville; cherished grandchildren, Amber, Jonathon, Elizabeth (Brandon) Holeman, Jacob (Shelbeigh), Austin, Evan, Ariel, Lucy, Sophia, Jase, and Bryson; great-grandchildren, Oakleigh, Karson, and Parker Holeman; two step-grandchildren, Austin Wright and Rachel Wright; one step-great-grandchild, Zane; sisters, Barbara Schell and Ella Myer, both of Owensboro; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends that will miss him deeply.
Junior early on worked at Kelly Wilmore where he operated machinery and delivered equipment. He moved on to Southwire as a furnace operator until he retired in 1985 after a back injury. Junior proudly served as a member on the Board of Directors of Knottsville Community Credit Union. He also worked for Daviess County Fiscal Court, volunteered his time with his church family at St. William and St. Lawrence Parishes, serving as the picnic chairman for several years. He even farmed and raised a garden most of his life. Junior loved being outdoors and working on things, especially old tractors. He restored many John Deere and Farmall tractors through the years.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Knottsville. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, with prayers at 6:30 p.m.
