GREENVILLE—-Sidney Charles Fitch, of Greenville, KY, entered into the arms of Jesus peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on August 10, 2025, at 5:39 p.m. at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
Sid was born in Redbud, IL, on May 17, 1955, to the late Charles “Chuck” Fitch and Minnie Ann “Sally” Laumbattus Fitch. In 1971, his family moved to Greenville from Marissa, IL, and Sid graduated from Greenville High School in 1973.
In 1974, Sid met the love of his life, Bonnie Sue Miller. From the moment they met, their hearts were set on building a life together. They were married on February 7, 1976, and for the next 49½ years, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and faith — a legacy that will live on through their children and grandchildren.
In 1975, Sid gave his heart to Christ and faithfully served as an active member of Carter Creek Missionary Baptist Church for the rest of his life. He worked as a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company at River Queen in Greenville until 1988, when he began a new chapter as a deputy jailer at the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. He retired in 2019, grateful for the friendships and purpose he found in his work.
Sid loved his family deeply and was happiest when surrounded by them. He was known for his steadfast faith, hard work, and kind heart — the sort of man who quietly led by example. His six grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he never missed a chance to tell someone about them.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Sally Fitch; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 49½ years, Bonnie Miller Fitch; his two children, Melissa (Matt) Eisenhauer of Newburgh, IN, and Jason (Elizabeth) Fitch of Elkton, KY; and his beloved grandchildren — Sydney and Lucas Harper, Hansen Fitch, Sarah Miller, Luke (Gianna) Eisenhauer, and Walker Eisenhauer. He is also survived by his sister, Lori (Jeff) Richardson of Lexington, KY; his brother, Stuart (Cindy) Fitch of Greenville, KY; four aunts; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his best friends, Danny and Lila Lassiter and Debbie Wilkins, all of Greenville, KY.
Funeral services for Sid will be held at Carter Creek Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. John Day III, assisted by Bro. Donnie Wilkins. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow in Carter Creek Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carter Creek Cemetery Fund.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Eric Bandy and staff and to the staff of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to Sid and his loved ones during his final days.
