July 3, 1946 - August 19, 2025

Richard Charles “Rich” Wagner

It is with heavy hearts we announce that Richard Charles “Rich” Wagner, sailed into the mystic on August 19, 2025. He was graced into this world on July 3, 1946, in Akron, Ohio, and was the beloved son to the late John and Elsie Wagner.

Rich was a wonderfully unique man with varied interests. As a young man, he was an avid runner, completing many 5 and 10k’s, as well as playing tennis, racquetball, and volleyball. Keeping to his roots, he was an Ohio State, Cleveland Guardians, and Cavaliers fan, but his sport fan heart belonged to the Cleveland Browns. Forever the optimist, he would always say, “this is going to be our year!”. And as long as they weren’t playing Ohio State, he would cheer on the UK Wildcats too.

A proud United States Air Force veteran, Rich was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant after ranking up quickly. After his service, he attended and later graduated from Kent State University. It was during his freshman year that the Kent State Massacre occurred, he along with the nation were profoundly affected. Rich went on to work as a corporate pilot, something he excelled in and was a source of great pride and joy.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debbi Wager; children, Ryan Wagner (Heather Smith), Joe Wagner (Jessica), and McKenzee Cummins (David); bonus daughters, Stephani Thompson and Laci Millay; brothers, Jim Wagner (Shelly), Tom Wagner, and David Wagner (Naw); sisters, Eleanor Kane (Bob) and Lauri Moye (Ralph); grandchildren, Olivia, Raelynn, and Piper Wagner, Avery Wagner, Hayden, Tyler, Luke, and Natalie Cummins, Jaci and Stephen Cowherd, Annalei and Preslei Millay; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends.

Rich was an extraordinary dad, grandpa, and husband. No truer words than “love of my life,” could be said for the love that was shared between Rich and Debbi, who were joyously married for 28 years. He will be deeply missed for his warmth and kindness, but most of all endless humor of dad jokes and cartoon impressions.

The family will share the date and time of Rich’s memorial service, in September, once arrangements have been finalized.
