Nancye E. Winchell, 79, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, August 20, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born January 19, 1946, to the late German and Isabelle Winchell. Nancye was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit and the admirable strength and resilience she embodied throughout her life.
Nancye had a diverse range of interests, which included camping and skiing in her earlier years. She was an excellent horseshoe thrower, a pastime that showed her competitive yet joyful nature. As she transitioned through different seasons of her life, she used her farming background to create delightful preserves, canning tomatoes and corn, which reflected her love for home-grown produce. Her pride in nurturing flowers was evident, reflecting her ability to cultivate beauty around her. Shopping was another of Nancye’s beloved activities, and her daughter, Mary, often accompanied her on these outings, indulging in shopping excursions where the experience itself mattered more than the purchases. She deeply cherished the time spent with her grandkids, particularly those fishing trips that created lasting memories and deep bonds.
In addition to her parents, Nancye is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Winchell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mary Hall and Steve Hall; grandchildren, Morgan Lucas (Gavin), Steven Wyatt Hall, James Colton Hall, Angela Grace Hall and Nathan Tyler Hall; siblings, Judy Shelton, Mary Pence, Tom Winchell (Shirley) and Mike Winchell (Renata).
The memorial mass for Nancye will be held at 12 noon Friday, August 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes, 4029 Frederica Street, Owensboro, 42301, with Father Pat Reynolds officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until time of service.
