John Allen Nesmith, 85, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. The Daviess County native was born January 9, 1940, to the late Orville D. and Teresa Duncan Nesmith. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School, Class of 1958, and attended Brescia College. John joined the United States Army and served from 1960 to 1966. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. John spent 40 years in Midland, Texas, until the passing of his long-time companion, Barbara. He returned to Owensboro two years ago to be near family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Nesmith. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Paul Simon, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Friends and family are invited to visitation at the church from 9 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky. Envelopes will be available at the church.
