It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Nicholas Merritt Johnson of Whitesville, who left this world far too soon at the age of 27.
Nicholas was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him; kind, generous, and endlessly outgoing. With an infectious laugh and an open heart, he made friends wherever he went. Whether it was horseback riding, cracking jokes with his friends late into the night around a bonfire, playing cornhole, shooting pool, showing up for his family with unwavering loyalty, or lending a helping hand to anyone in need, Nicholas lived his life with passion and joy. He was a member of Donate Life thru the Kentucky Organ Donors Association.
His love for horseback riding wasn’t just a hobby; it was a reflection of his free spirit, his deep respect for animals, and his connection to the world around him. He enjoyed riding horses, where he found both peace in nature and an appreciation for the beauty around him.
To his friends, he was the one you could always count on. To his family, he was a source of joy, laughter, unconditional love, and sometimes a little mischief. His kindness had no limits. He gave freely of himself, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the time we had with Nicholas, a beautiful soul who touched so many lives in just 27 years.
Nicholas is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alva and Joyce Merritt, and his aunt, Sherry Mattingly.
Nicholas is survived by his parents, Scotty and Charlotte, brother Matthew (Ayriel), and sister Ashley. He was a loving uncle to his niece Emma and nephew Cooper. He is also survived by his grandparents, Tony and Sandra Johnson, uncle Scott (Robin) Merritt, Mike Mattingly, aunt Sandra (Kevin) Medcalf, Michelle (Joey) Payne, cousins, and friends who are family.
