Myrtie Ellen Coleman Wilhoyte, 101, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born May 21, 1924 in Daviess County to the late Samuel Coleman and Georgia Ellen Hosman Coleman. Myrtie was the owner of Sparkle Brite Car Wash and was a member of Third Baptist Church. She was an avid NFL fan and enjoyed her fantasy football league up until she was 100. Myrtie was a Sunday School teacher for 45+ years and was part of the church choir. She loved playing cards and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Wilhoyte; and a brother, Samuel Coleman.
She is survived by her children, Gerald Wilhoyte (Judy), Ellen Johnson (D.J.), James “Jim” Wilhoyte (Tammy), and Lynn Garis (Greg); six grandchildren, Josh Wilhoyte, Jeremy Wilhoyte (Kristin), Courtney French (Bobby), Storm Kowalewski (Cam), Cole Garis, and Hope Garis; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Shelby, Kaidyn, Everlie, Madilyn, and Maverick.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
