Byron Keith “Bobo” Preston, 42, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Heartford House in Owensboro, KY. Byron was born on June 19, 1983, to Rita Faye and the late George Byron Preston. Byron was an Equipment Operator at Owensboro Riverport Authority. He loved hunting, golfing with his family, fishing with his daughter, working on the farm, cutting firewood, and all things outdoors. He often spent evenings on the swing with a cold one, watching the sun go down, and reminiscing about the old school days. He was a member of The All Sauced Up Barbeque Team, and September Cook with the guys was a long-standing tradition for him.
In addition to his father, Byron is preceded in death by his stepfather, Danny Thomas Small, and his grandparents, Regina and Wilbur Wright, Sr., and Beatrice and Buck Preston.
Byron is survived by his daughter, Georgia Faye Preston; mother, Rita Faye Small; siblings, Craig (Amber) Preston, Drew (Jessica) Preston, Jessica Preston (Joe); nieces and nephews, Ava and Camryn Preston, Delaney Preston, Izzy Taylor, Will and Dylan Carmen and Hunter Greathouse; his brother from another mother, Brent (Vivian) Wright and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Heartford House or The St. Mary of the Woods “Together We Can” Capital Campaign.
A funeral mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, KY., with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with prayers at 2:00 p.m., at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY.
