Lawrence Wimsatt

Lawrence Wimsatt, 77, of Owensboro, passed away on November 15, 2025. He was born on November 17, 1947, to the Owen D. Wimsatt and Kathryn (Ford) Wimsatt-Wright.

Lawrence was a dedicated Mechanic for Titan Contracting, where he proudly worked for his dear friend, Mike Horn, for more than 30 years. Even in his final days, his work ethic never wavered—he continued working up until a week before his passing, most recently with his beloved son-in-law, Eric Belcher, at Venture Pools.

A faithful member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, Lawrence was also a longtime business owner, operating Wimsatt Tire Co. for many years. He honorably served his country in the United States Army.

Lawrence believed in working hard and playing hard. He found joy in watching horse races, spending time with his family, and living life to the fullest. He shared nine children with his former wife, Ellen Wimsatt, and cherished the large, lively family they created together.

Along with his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Belcher; his sisters, Deanna Uhl and Mary Blake, and his brothers, John, Charles, Edward, and James Wimsatt.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, William (Heather) Wimsatt, Laura (John) Sheffer, Laurna (Barry) Strehl, Cynthia Wimsatt, Kathryn Wimsatt, Mary (Chad) Moseley, Elizabeth (Steven) Burch, and Kristina (fiancé, Billy Robinson) Collins; his son-in-law, Eric Belcher; his twenty-four grandchildren, and his siblings, Rose Towery, Sharon Ward, Janice Wimsatt, Dorothy (Robert) Lordo, and Teresa (Paul) Fraim.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Mike Williams officiating. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, and will resume visitation on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Enichment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
