Betty Jo Turner, 94, of Owensboro, passed away December 9, 2025. She was born in Louisville, KY, on February 15, 1931, to the late Roy E. and Mary E. (Moore) Schaddic.
Betty began her career as a medical records clerk at St. Joseph’s Infirmary before having children. She later worked in ladies’ fine clothing sales at Simmons, Marshalls, and Stewart’s Dry Goods in Louisville, KY. She grew up in the Baptist church in Louisville and was baptized at Broadway Baptist before later becoming a member of Christ Community Church in Owensboro. A graduate of Shawnee High School, Class of 1949, she devoted much of her life to serving others—whether as PTA President, a Cub Scouts Den Mother, or the friendly, dependable neighbor everyone could count on. Creative and skillful, she enjoyed ceramics and sewing, and she loved attending basketball games, especially cheering for U of L and KWC. She was a generous woman who loved her family dearly, and she cherished every opportunity to gather around a table for cards or board games—occasionally bending the rules just enough to keep things interesting. Her warmth, humor, and neighborly spirit made her beloved by all who knew her.
Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Turner.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, John Michael (Laurie) Turner and Mary M. (Robert) McDole; her grandchildren, Matthew (Michelle), Zachary (Dedra), Jaclyn (Brad), Laura, Colleen, and Jacob, and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive visitors, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, KY on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. EST.
