Joseph Albert “Al” Clark, Jr.

Joseph Albert “Al” Clark, Jr. passed away on December 30, 2025, at the Carmel Home, surrounded by his loving family. He is the son of Joseph A. Clark, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Alvey Clark. He was 94 years old.

He continued as a Brother for two years at Notre Dame University until then serving four years in the Navy, and two years in the Naval Reserves. In 1971, Al received the US Naval League Award for outstanding leadership, effort, attitude, and patriotism. Al also attended Brescia University, majoring in History. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 34 years and received numerous recognitions for his service, including the Special Recognition for Achievement.

Al was a devoted member of the Immaculate Catholic Church for 64 years. He taught CCD for several years at Immaculate Parish and was among the first Eucharistic Ministers appointed by Bishop Soenneker and Pastor Leo Dienes, serving in the ministry for twelve years. Al was also a member of the Marian Shrine Committee for 25 years and was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary’s Rosary.

Al is survived by his wife, Rose Virginia Oberst Clark, in their 70th year of marriage. He is survived by his children: Joseph G. Clark (Cheryl), Stephen D. Clark (Sharon), Timothy Clark (Kristen), and Mary Beth Clark Uhls (Kevin); thirteen grandchildren: Brandon Clark, Nicholas Clark, Jessica Williams, Wes Clark, Adam Clark, Ryan Clark, Nolan Clark, Anna Clark, Lia Clark, Hayley Oldham, Matthew Uhls, Andrew Uhls, and Ben Uhls; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Al took great pride and enjoyment in maintaining his home and yard, contributed in many ways to the Immaculate church, and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Al’s family remembers him as always waiting at home with a smile for them, frequently sharing his love of life and wonderful sense of humor with them from his front porch swing. Amidst a family of UK fans, he was a proud supporter of U of L Cardinals basketball. And finally, the many birds and squirrels in his backyard will dearly miss Mr. Clark.

The Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Church on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 am, with Reverend John Vaughan officiating. Visitation will take place at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
