
Jennifer Lynnette “Jennie” Shourds, 49, of Bowling Green passed away peacefully and
surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Vanderbilt Hospital in
Nashville, TN.
Jennie was born on October 21, 1976 in Owensboro, KY, a daughter of David W. Wells
and Debra Sheldon Wells, who survive. She is preceded in death by her infant sister,
Carrie Melissa Wells; her grandparents, Evelyn Jean “Nini” Sheldon and Darrell
Sheldon, Alvie J. and Gartha Wells; beloved aunts and uncles; and great grandmother,
Altha Pearl “Granny” McDaniel.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College and her master’s
degree in secondary education from Indiana Wesleyan University. Jennie was a music
teacher and preschool director of the Early Learning Center at Broadway United
Methodist Church, where she was a member and served as worship leader. Jennie was
a middle school teacher, a pastor’s wife and devoted mother. Jennie was known for her
beautiful singing voice, which was a reflection of her inner beauty and purity of spirit.
She was known for her infectious laugh and love of children.
In addition to her parents survivors include her husband, Rev. Dr. Adam Shourds; two
sons, Luke Shourds (Brooke) and Isaac Shourds (Isabelle); one daughter, Sarah Grace
Mendoza Shourds (Vismay); one brother, David W. Wells, Jr. (Bethany); one sister,
Kathy Lewis (Kent); four nephews, Jackson Lewis, Grant Lewis, Easton Wells, Kyland
Shourds; two nieces, Hannah Lewis and Maci Shourds.
A Celebration of Jennie’s Life will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm at
Broadway United Methodist Church in the Ministry and Activity Center. Visitation will be
on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm and again on Thursday from
12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of
donations to Broadway United Methodist Church “Growing Forward” Campaign to
expand our preschool and ministries to families.
