Randy “Pops” Johnson, 67, of Owensboro passed away January 5, 2026. He was born on January 19, 1958, to the late John Russel and Catherine Louise (Payne) Johnson.
Randy raised rabbits and pigeons and found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved going fishing—especially with his cousins and brothers—and enjoyed playing cards whenever he had the chance. He never met a stranger and was known for his easygoing nature and friendly spirit. He often joked that he was good at golf, a lighthearted claim that reflected his sense of humor and optimism. One of his favorite pastimes was hanging out and riding around with his son, Jordan—moments he truly cherished. He also adored spending time playing with his beloved dogs, Sugar and Angel, who were constant sources of comfort and companionship.
Along with his parents, Randy is preceded in death by his infant brother, James Johnson, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Sherri (Groves) Johnson; his sons, Zachary and Jordan Johnson; his grandchildren, Kaleb and Chaz Johnson, his siblings, Mike (Susan) Johnson, Billy (Cindy) Johnson, Susie, Jeff (Bob) Johnson, Denny (Cheri) Johnson, and Pat Johnson; his sister-in-law, Lisa Brumley, and his close family friend, Betty Lou Sweeney.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 pm, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Calhoun Cemetery.
