Martha “Jeannie” Millay, 93, of Owensboro passed away January 27, 2026. She was born on November 3, 1932, to the late William Richard and May Dell (Willett) Millay.
Jeannie was born and raised in Stanley, Kentucky, where she spent years surrounded by the familiarity of home and community before later residing at Carmel Home. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, a faith that remained an important part of her life. Jeannie found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially being outdoors. She loved gardening and took pride in tending to her flowers and vegetables, finding peace and purpose in watching them grow.
Along with her parents, Jeannie is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Glenn Smithhart; her grandson, Lawrence Jeremy Smithhart; her sister, Betty Head, and her brother William Donald “Donnie” Millay
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Lawrence “Butch” (Darlene) Smithhart, Debra (David) Gish, Karen (David) Hardesty, Kathy (Mike) Alvey, and Wendy Canary; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and her sister, Margaret Ann Lambert.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm, Monday, February 2, 2026, at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, with Father Will Thompson officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home, from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. Burial to follow the service at St. Peter Cemetery.
