Anna Shown Adkins, 97, formerly of Owensboro, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 at Germantown Methodist Hospital, Germantown, TN. She was born April 15, 1928 in Owensboro, KY to the late Willis and Avaidna Sheffer Shown. Anna was a long time Owensboro resident and active member of Buena Vista Baptist Church until her move to Germantown in 2006. There she continued living life to the fullest, joining Bellevue Baptist Church and taking advantage of any number of social events or activities at The Village at Germantown where she lived. Anna enjoyed many activities with her beloved Sunday school class and rarely turned down an opportunity to participate in water aerobics and play bridge, hand-and-foot canasta, or Mexican Train with her friends. Even as her health deteriorated, Anna refused to stand still and could be found traveling the halls on her signature scooter. Anna loved God and her family, was strong-willed and never gave up. She truly got the most out of her 97 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Adkins and brothers, William E. Shown (Hazel) and Vernon E. Shown (Margery); sons-in-law, Martin J. Smith and Jerald G. Cooper; and granddaughters, Tina Cooper Shah and Sarah Beth Adkins.
She is survived by her sons, David Martin (Ann Coker) of Lexington KY, Glenn Adkins (Katherine) of Greensboro NC, and Philip Adkins (Sheila Ward) of Louisville KY; daughters Jennie Cooper of Germantown TN and Janice Smith of Louisville KY; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
