Nancy (Fancy Nancy) Thompson Ferguson, lovingly known as “MaNan” by her grandchildren and Momma Ferguson to “her girls,” passed away, in Owensboro, on February 9th, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born, on March 21st, 1947, to Oscar P. Thompson and Ina Divine Thompson. Nancy was a member of St Pius Tenth.
Nancy spent more than 57 years as a devoted hairdresser, a profession through which she expressed her creativity, talent, and love for people. She proudly earned her PhD from Helix Hair Design Academy. She was well known for her ability to make any house feel warm and welcoming. Holidays— Especially Christmas—- brought out her gift for decorating, cooking, and entertaining, and she found her greatest joy in bringing family and friends together.
Above all Nancy treasured her family. She found her deepest happiness in time spent with her children and grandchildren. She also loved music and dancing, lighting up the floor with disco, ballroom, and anything that made her smile.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Mildred “Mim” Thompson; and her sisters, Doris “Dottie” Callahan and Freda Edwards.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Michael ” Mike” Joseph Ferguson; her children, Michael Shane Ferguson (Michelle), Joseph Chad Ferguson, and Susan Michelle Ferguson; her grandchildren, Whitney Lauren Early (Jeffrey), Joseph Taylor Ferguson (Katlyn), and Michael Brayden Ferguson (Brooklyn); her sister, Judy Morris; step grandchildren, Kyla Smith (Chris), Tessa Phelps (Jesse); step great-grandchildren, Miles White, Owen White, Finely White, Jaidan Early, and Mackenna White, and several nieces and nephews.
Nancy also leaves behind a very special group of women she lovingly called “her girls.” What began as her daughter’s close friends grew into a deep, lifelong bond. They became a second family to her, embracing her as Momma Ferguson, and she, in turn, supported, guided, and loved them as if they were her own.
