Donald Ray Edwards

Donald Ray Edwards, 88, of Owensboro passed away February 19, 2026. He was born on October 16, 1937, to the late George and Flora Blair Edwards. Donald Ray was born in Delaware, KY and spent his childhood in Elba, KY.

Donald Ray left behind a legacy of laughter, love, and quiet strength. Fondly known as “Duck” by friends and family in his early years—a nickname that stayed with him and captured his playful spirit—he carried that warmth throughout his life. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Donald Ray upheld the values of service and dedication long after his time in uniform.

He dedicated 19 years of hard work as a lineman with Green River Electric, where he was known for his strong work ethic and steady reliability. A faithful and longtime member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, his life reflected a deep commitment to both his community and his faith.

He found joy in the simple pleasure– spirited games of dominoes, carefully solving word searches, long card games around the kitchen table, and lively rounds of Monopoly where his competitive streak always brought a smile. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. His eyes would light up in the presence of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the true treasures of his life. Donald Ray will be remembered for his warm heart, playful spirit, and the steady love he gave so freely to those fortunate enough to call him family.

Along with his parents, Donald Ray is preceded in death by his nine older, beloved siblings, Delbert “Doc” Edwards, Mildred “Sis” Edwards, Lee Edwards, William Howard “Monk” Edwards, Margaret Fenwick, Martine Hodskins, Dalcy Jo Jackson, Mitchell Tyler “Jack” Edwards, and Charles Truman “Doodle” Edwards.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years, Vicki Russell Edwards; children Sherri Stevens (Steve Hagan), Kristie Humphrey (Steve Peak); grandchildren Brandi Stevens, Donald Ray (Justice) Stevens, Kasey (Michael) Zogg, Kelsey (Dylan) Moore, Lukas Humphrey; great-grandchildren Kaden Tierney, Asher Ray Stevens, Gatlin Zogg, Lainey Zogg, Reid Zogg, Murphy Rae Moore, and Henry Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, February 24, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Craig Bratcher officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 23, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm, resuming at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 24 until the time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will take place following the service at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations made payable to Hospice of Western Kentucky.

The family of Donald Ray would like to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone who helped care for him, with a special thanks to Elaine Gaither, Gayle Farrell, VA Palliative Care Team, Hospice of Western KY, and niece Kim Findley.
