Carolyn Head Hood passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. The youngest of four children born to the late Lyman and Christine Head of Owensboro (Philpot), Kentucky. Carolyn was born on April 25, 1941. Her young years were spent in Philpot, attended Philpot Elementary, where her mother taught. Was a member of Dawson Baptist Church, graduated from Daviess County High School in 1959. After graduation, she attended Georgetown Baptist College and continued her love of athletics, which led her to begin her career as a physical education teacher and coach. Carolyn taught in the DaviessĀ County School System and the Chillicothe, Ohio, system before moving to Louisville, where she continued her teaching career.
After teaching, she found a passion for real estate, winning numerous awards and accolades in the industry. Building on that experience, she finished her professional career with a 15-year tenure at National City Bank/PNC. Along the way, the friendships and relationships that she built with those she worked with remained strong throughout her life.
After retiring in 2006, she engaged in her favorite activities, meeting regularly with her much-beloved bridge group, playing golf, and enjoying the company of her friends and neighbors. She was an avid traveler, enjoyed driving fast with the top down, and dancing to Motown classics. She loved spending time with her daughter and grandsons, especially over the holidays. Her passion was gardening in her beautiful yard and settling in with a good book.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother, A. Eugene Head, and brothers-in-law, Vernon R. Jones and Richard D. Edwards.
She is survived by her daughter, Katharine Hill; grandsons, Garrett and Owen; sisters, Nancy Jones of Gainesville, Florida, and Joyce Edwards of Owensboro, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Marcella Head of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Carolyn loved life; she did things on her own terms and was a beautifully independent soul! She will be missed!!!
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Louisville Free Public Library would be appreciated, so many more can enjoy the love of learning and reading Carolyn so cherished.
A celebration of life will take place from 2-5 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in Louisville.
