Letter to the Editor

On behalf of the Kentucky 2A Championship Board of Directors, we want to thank Owensboro and Daviess County for being outstanding hosts this past weekend. The Kentucky 2A Golf, Volleyball, and Soccer State Championships showed how the right community partners can deliver first-class events that support student-athletes while also creating a strong economic impact for the host city.

We especially want to thank Visit Owensboro for their outstanding support, along with:

  • Dr. James Cousins, Jason Vittone, and Jordyn Simpkins at Kentucky Wesleyan College
  • Dale Armistead of Daviess County High School Soccer
  • Jason Fitch, golf pro at Owensboro Country Club
  • Tim Ross with the City of Owensboro
  • Mark Perdue, Jerry Forbes, and the entire volleyball team at Brescia University
  • Madison Silvert, President of Brescia University
  • Owensboro Health, including Melissa Hoffer, for their partnership and support in keeping players safe with athletic trainers
  • Ty Stauffer, head coach of Kentucky Wesleyan women’s soccer, and his players
  • Jeff Esposito and his team at the Owensboro Convention Center
  • Keith Sharber- the official voice of the KY 2A

This championship week was a winning example of collaboration at its best — and proof of what’s possible when a community works together.
