The Owensboro Catholic volleyball team swept both matches Saturday to claim the 3rd Region All “A” championship and advance to next weekend’s state tournament. Trinity won their opener before falling to the Lady Aces in the semifinals.
Catholic received a bye to the semifinal round, where they topped the Lady Raiders 2-0 (25-14, 25-19). They then beat Hancock County 2-0 (25-9, 25-19) in the title game.
The Lady Aces were led by Cassidy Towery (11 kills, 7 aces, 3 digs), Cecilia Clemens (37 assists, 7 kills, 3 blocks) and Isabelle Wright (9 kills, 3 digs). The trio was named to the All Tournament team.
Also contributing were Jenna Glenn (13 digs), Jayden Bickett (8 digs), Madeline Castlen (7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Allie Hamilton (4 kills, 2 aces), Cate Sites (4 kills) and Shelby Durham (2 digs).
Trinity opened the day with a 2-0 (25-12, 25-20) victory over McLean County before losing to Catholic.
The Lady Raiders were led by Taylor Pedley (26 digs), Cassidy Morris (10 kills, 10 digs, 2 aces), Josie Aull (17 assists, 12 digs, 2 kills), Morgan Kinsey (8 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces) and Hannah Nash (8 digs, 4 kills).
Also contributing were Abby Payne (10 digs), Josie Booker (5 digs), Avery Barnett (4 digs, 2 assists), Lexie Barnett (4 digs) and Jenna McDowell (2 kills).
