Three days after the semifinals of the All “A” Classic State Baseball Tournament at Chautauqua Park, a date for the championship has finally been set.

Owensboro Catholic and Walton-Verona will meet Wednesday in Louisville at Holy Cross to deem who’s this year’s winner. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST.

“I’m glad that we have a date to prepare for,” Catholic coach Derek Hibbs said. “The team is excited for the opportunity to be able to compete for a championship. It has been 13 years since we have had a chance to bring the All ‘A’ State title home. One of our goals for this spring was to add an All ‘A’ banner on our outfield wall. We are one win away from achieving that.”

In an email obtained by the Owensboro Times, All “A” Classic Baseball Coordinator Mike Duncan said the board had made the decision.

He said after looking at each school’s upcoming KHSAA schedule, it was determined May 5 would be the day of the game.
