Owensboro Catholic grabbed the 3rd Region All A Classic Title over Edmonson County on Thursday, while Apollo grabbed a dominant win in its first game since spring break.
Apollo vs. Breckinridge County
After nearly a week off, Apollo baseball returned to action with a bang by grabbing an 8-2 win over Breckinridge County on Thursday.
The Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first inning because of an RBI double from senior Dayton Brown, before adding three more in the third. It was fellow senior Harrison Bowman who started the scoring, hitting a two-run home run before an RBI double from junior Aiden Wells to make it 4-0.
Breckinridge County was able to grab a run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning, but the Eagles put up four more runs in the top of the sixth. Paired with a team effort on the mound for Apollo, they were able to walk away with an 8-2 victory.
Bowman, Brown and freshman Sam Holder led the way offensively with two RBIs each, while Wells added one. Meanwhile, the Eagles pitching staff allowed just one hit on the day to help grab the win.
The win moves Apollo to 12-4 overall, as they are now set for a district matchup with Daviess County on Friday at 6 p.m.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Edmonson County
Competing in the All A 3rd Region Classic Championship, Owensboro Catholic poured in the offense throughout to defeat Edmonson County 11-1.
It was a 1-1 game after the first inning, but the Aces grabbed the lead in the second and never looked back. It started with some miscues for Edmonson County, as back-to-back errors led to a run each.
Senior Everett Munsey proceeded to add two more runs with a double, while senior Braden Mundy wrapped up the inning with a sac fly to gain a 6-1 lead.
Mundy gave the Aces two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but it was a two-run single from Munsey that closed a three-run bottom of the fifth to give Owensboro Catholic the 11-1 win.
Mundy and Munsey led the way offensively, grabbing four RBIs each, while seniors Luke Evan and John Frey had one each. It was the senior trio of Sam McFarland, Alex Castlen and Munsey who got the job done on the mound, allowing just three hits and one run in the game.
With the win Owensboro Catholic moves to 14-2 overall, as they now have some time off before a 5:30 p.m. home matchup against Henderson County on April 19.
