It took Daviess County 12U softball just four batters into the top of the first to open the scoring against Illinois, cruising to an 11-1 win. After scoring three in the opening frame, Daviess County added one in the second, four in the third, and three in the fourth.

Ella Nonweiler and Finley Beaven combined for three hits and four RBIs, while Marlee Duncan, Presley Roberts, Emma Tanner, Kenley Evans, and Avery O’Bryan all drove in runs. Evans started in the circle, allowing one earned run over three innings, striking out three. Michaela Knight pitched in relief, throwing a scoreless fourth.

“We are extremely proud of the girls,” Coach Joseph Tanner said. “In the first game, they were obviously nervous, but we challenged them to come out loose and play to their abilities. They showed a ton of mental strength and played with passion and intensity. This is an amazing group of girls getting the opportunity to show the world what they’ve got. Our coaches could not be prouder of them. Now on to a really talented Indiana team tomorrow.”

Daviess County returns to action later today at 3 pm CT against Indiana for a trip to the Championship Game.
