Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Daviess County’s Presley Roberts singled home Brynlee Zembrycki to beat Missouri 3-2 in the opening round of the 12U Little League Softball Regional Tournament. Missorui took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Daviess County responded in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs off an error. Missouri tied it in the top of the fourth, leading to the eventual walk-off.
Kenley Evans started in the circle, allowing one unearned run over two innings, striking out four. Michaela Knight pitched in relief, allowing one earned run over four innings, striking out seven. Adley P finished 2-2 at the plate, while Emma Tanner, Adalyn Schroader, Zembrycki, and Roberts combined for four of the team’s six hits.
“The girls are and were very nervous. All the cameras and hype really play a role for these girls mentally,” Daviess County coach JW O’Bryan said. “They persevered, which impressed me. Even we coaches have so much pressure at this level that we have to cope with it and adjust. I am extremely proud that our entire team worked to get this game behind us. Hopefully, now the jitters are leaving, and the girls can play softball. This is an experience that I am so happy the girls are getting to experience, and future generations of girls will get to experience from Daviess County now.”
