In their inaugural season, the Davies County Little League Fastpitch 12U softball team capped off their dominant State Tournament run in which they outscored their opponents 51-2 – beating Jackson County 16-1 in the championship game.
It took Daviess County just two batters into the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead after Presley Roberts doubled home a run, one of her three RBIs. By the end of the first, Daviess County led 5-0, adding three more runs in the second and eight more in the third.
Ella Nonweiler and Brooklyn Zembrycki combined for five hits and six RBIs, while Kenley Evans finished 2–2 with two RBIs. Evans pitched a complete game in the circle, allowing one unearned run and striking out five over three no-hit innings.
“The girls came ready to play and take the title,” Daviess County Little League Fastpitch 12 softball coach JW O’Bryan said. “Our pitching was phenomenal all week, defense stayed strong, and our bats stayed hot. Despite the heat, this group gave it 110% and the coaching staff and families are incredibly proud of their performance this week. In four games, we collected 38 hits as a team. We outscored our opponents 51-2, with our pitchers striking out a total of 30 and only allowing two hits.”
Daviess County started their State Tournament run by shutting out Valley Sports 17-0, which saw Michaela Knight throw a no-hitter, striking out seven over three innings. In their second game, Daviess County beat Morehead 11-1 thanks to Marlee Duncan going 3-3 with two RBIs. Against Jackson County in the semi-finals, Evans threw six no hit innings with eight strikeouts to fuel Daviess County to a 7-0 win.
Daviess County will now set its eyes on the upcoming Regional Tournament in Indianapolis for a spot in the World Series.
