During a board meeting last week, Southern Little League decided to renovate two of their fields off of Scherm Road, starting in late August/early September, which will lead to the fall season being cancelled. Both fields will be reseeded, and the drainage will be improved.

“They are grass infields that have dirt between the infield and the outfield. And for both of them, the dirt has started to get really low, so it has kind of created lips that have led to bad hops,” Southern Little League President Derek Hibbs said. “We noticed that quite a bit in the games we had in the spring. Typically, with any type of natural service field, you are going to renovate it every few years, and we felt this fall was a good time to take advantage of people who are willing to help out to renovate the fields.”

While the fall season has been cancelled, Southern Little League reached out to Owensboro Catholic League about allowing their athletes to sign up for their fall season.

“They wanted a place for their families to go, and we have worked with them before,” Owensboro Catholic League’s Michael Murphy said. “They have some confidence in our league, and we are more than open to their entire community. We were more than happy to let them use us to give their players and families an option to play baseball.”
