It was an exciting night for the local teams as both Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic emerged victorious.
Owensboro 6, Calloway County 0
Denis Juma scored a hat trick including a penalty kick and added an assist to power the Red Devils past Calloway County 5-0. Pete Mbayo scored twice, and Jackson Sigler added a goal, while Kennedy and Dax Garrison both recorded assists. Owensboro dominated possession, ripping 21 shots when in the attacking third, with 16 on goal.
“Tonight, our guys played a good game,” Owensboro head coach Ryan Haley said. “I thought our defense did a good job limiting the opposition to a minimum in regards to opportunities. Our midfield controlled the pitch and got the ball moving well from side to side and north to south. I like the direction our team is heading in. We still have some things to work on, but it’s encouraging to see them playing at a high level this early.”
Owensboro Catholic 8, Lyon County 0
Andrew Bailey and Owen Brey both scored a pair of goals, and Isaac Self had two assists to power the Aces past Lyon County 8-0. Landon Danner, Conner Grant, Mason Hardesty, and Jaxyn Rundall all scored, while Rafe Boling, Chase Kunkel, Jace Obermeier, Brey, Hardesty, and Dunner all tallied assists, while Max Dawson and Obermeier each had a save in goal.
“This was a great result against a hard-working group. Lyon County made us work for it and deserves credit,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Andy Donohoe said. “There were some good elements of our game. At times, the tempo and speed of play were strong, but there were other times when it could be much better. We will need to continue to develop that part of our game. There were lots of changes in the game with substitutions and water breaks, but we did a good job of working hard in hot conditions.”
