It was an excellent night for the local teams as both McLean County and Owensboro won.
McLean County 2, Todd County Central 1
Landry Humphrey scored a pair of goals and Haley Louden finished with eight saves in net in the Lady Cougars 2-1 win over Todd County Central.
“This was a huge win and confidence builder for us,” McLean County head coach Ricky Humphrey said. “After losing to Ohio County on Tuesday, we needed to get back in the win column, and we did. This team beat us 5-0 last year, so this was a quality win for us.”
Owensboro 4, Warren East 0
In only the third minute, Owensboro’s Ella Hall found Lily Nieman for an early 1-0 lead – en route to a 3-0 shutout win over Warren East. In the fifth minute Nieman recorded her first of two assists, this time to Amelia Calhoun. Nieman assisted Lilly Paige Early in the 47th minute and just 11 minutes later Calhoun found Adalyn Selby to secure the 4-0 win. Hayley Sikes was a brick wall in goal, finishing with seven saves.
“We had another good game tonight,” Owensboro head coach Sarah Poole said. “The offense was crafty in their attack throughout the night, but struggled at times to get past the keeper. Our defense worked well together tonight, keeping the game a shutout. I am very proud of the girls for another good performance.”
