Early in the second half, Molly Floyd found Bailey Brown to break the scoreless tie for the lone goal of the game – powering Daviess County to a 1-0 shutout win over Owensboro Catholic. It was a defensive showdown, with both the Lady Panthers’ Kaelin Labhart and the Lady Aces Felicity Payne recording three saves each.

“I thought we played tight for most of the first half,” Daviess County head coach Paige Crisp said. “Catholic did a great job pressuring us, and it took us out of our game. I think we calmed down in the second half, and we were able to hold onto the ball a little bit more. It wasn’t our best soccer, but I’m proud of our girls for doing what it took to get the win. I also thought our center backs, Anslie Dant and Mack Elliot, were solid all night.”

Despite the loss, Owensboro Catholic head coach Meg Patton was pleased with her teams effort and heart.

“We controlled possession for the majority of the first half, but in the second half, it was more even,” Patton said. “Even with the loss, I think we made a statement. We’re not going anywhere, and we’ll be back in a few weeks, ready to see them again.”

Daviess County is back in action this Saturday with a doubleheader, while the Lady Aces have a few days off before they take on Owensboro on the road next Tuesday evening.

Lily Neiman’s hat trick powers Lady Devils

Lily Neiman scored four goals and added two assists and Lily Paige Early finished with two goals and one assist in Owensboro’s 8-0 win over Apollo. Amelia Calhoun had a goal and an assist, Caroline Smith scored, and both Ella Hall and Drew Kurz recorded an assist, while Hayley Sikes recorded three saves in goal.

“The girls started out a bit slow in the first half, scoring three goals,” Owensboro head coach Sarah Poole said. “We were able to work some things out during halftime, and they came out strong in the second half, adding five more goals. The team is moving the ball well, especially in the offensive third. Our defense also worked well tonight, quickly shifting any plays from Apollo into our possession. I appreciate the spread of goals and assists, as I think it shows versatility in our attack.”
