It was a wild 24 hours for Daviess County, whose season opener against Central Hardin was suspended due to lightning with just over 28 minutes remaining in the first half before coming to a conclusion last night – a 4-4 draw.
On an assist from Ashton Boarman, Taylor Hoak gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Once play resumed after the lightning suspension, Central Hardin quickly tied the game on a Daviess County own goal. From there, the Panthers suffered a short breakdown, falling behind 4-1. At halftime, head coach Dale Armistead told his team to calm down and that they needed to move the ball more and believe in each other.
Armistead’s words had an immediate effect on his team, with Taylor Hoak scoring his second goal on the game, this time on an assist from Saw Mu in the 54th minute. 11 minutes later, Jack Labhart scored on a header off a pass from Silas Goebel. In the 65th minute, the Panthers completed the comeback when Ethan Dailey set up Saw Mu. Daviess County had ample opportunities in the remaining five minutes to retake the lead, but a plethora of shots banged off the post.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Panthers as they host rival Owensboro Catholic tonight at 7:30.
