Hancock County jumped out early and never let up Friday night, shutting out Ohio County 45-0 on the road.

Quarterback Brady Eubanks got the Hornets on the board with a touchdown run midway through the first quarter, and Kaleb Helms followed with another score minutes later to make it 14-0.

Lukas Anderson added to the lead in the second quarter with a short touchdown run, and Eubanks connected with Cooper Jones for a 20-yard touchdown pass just before halftime.

Hancock carried a 28-0 advantage into the break.

The Hornets didn’t slow down in the second half. Kyle anderson scored a rushing touchdown early in the third quarter, and Brooks Roberts tacked on another before kicker Anthony Dubon drilled a 37-yard field goal to cap the scoring.

Dubon finished 6-for-6 on extra points and was perfect on the field goal attempt.

“We were much better on both sides of the ball,” Hancock head coach Bobby Eubanks said. “We still had some turnover problems that we have to get cleaned up. Special teams were great tonight. Our special teams and defense played great, creating some turnovers that we were able to capitalize on. I’m pleased with the effort.”

Eubanks said turnovers will be a focus heading into next week’s matchup with Apollo, a team he knows well.

“We have to make sure to clean up our turnover issues,” he said. “Apollo is a good football team that’s well coached. They will capitalize on mistakes. They will be hungry for a win coming to our place, and we will have to play our best game.”

Eubanks and Apollo coach John Edge have a long history together, having played side by side at Murray State and coached together from 2006 to 2009.
