Shooting 323, Daviess County’s girls’ golf team finished two strokes behind first-place Bowling Green at semi-state. Alongside Bowling Green and Marshall County, the Lady Panthers have advanced to the KHSAA State Championship, which will be held at Bowling Green County Club on Oct. 7 and 8.
“I am proud and excited for this talented group,” Daviess County Head Coach Jonas Billingsley said. “This is our third consecutive year advancing to the state championship as a team, which is impressive. Claire carried our team for a runner-up finish, and she played great. Baylie and Alexa kept it together, scattering pars and bogeys, with one birdie each. I was very proud of their composure today and not letting the windy conditions break them down. Briley and Kennedi both had some struggles today, but fought hard to help our team advance.”
Claire Reynolds led the way for Daviess County, finishing second in the individual and shooting 72. Alexa Salamah and Baylie Billingsley both shot 82, while Briley Billingsley rounded out the team’s top four scores, shooting 87. Kennedi Minton finished shooting 92. Owensboro’s Ryann Kasey competed as an individual, tying for 57th and shooting 94.
“Golf can break a positive spirit very fast, as a couple of bad breaks or a three-four putt can make the day turn negative,” Billingsley said. “They fought hard today and checked another box off, reaching the finals.”
