The Lady Aces fell in the semi-finals of the All A State Tournament, while Apollo went 2-1 in their quad match.

Lady Aces fall in semi-finals of All-A State Tournament

Competing in the All A State Tournament, Owensboro Catholic bowed out in the semi-finals, losing to Beechwood 2-0 (25-14, 25-9). On Friday night, the Lady Aces finished 1-1, beating Metcalfe County 2-0 (25-17, 25-18) and losing to Trinity Christian 2-1 (25-23, 15-25, 19-25). On Saturday, they beat Shelby Valley 2-0 (25-20, 25-22) and Sayre 2-0 (25-23, 27-25) before falling to Beechwood. Mayme Powell and Ava Martin were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Apollo finishes triple header 2-1

Competing in a quad match, Apollo finished 2-1 after beating Ohio County 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-17) and Muhlenberg County 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-11) and losing to Henderson County 2-1 (25-27, 23-26, 25-23).

Avery Gray finished the day with 46 kills, 28 digs, six service aces, and three blocks, while Jessie Pate recorded a team-high 33 digs. Maddi Roberts had 45 assists, 17 digs, and four service aces.

“We got to play a lot of volleyball today, which was good for us,” Apollo Head Coach Mary Howard said. “Our execution at the beginning of the day wasn’t quite up to the standards that our girls hold themselves to, but they did a good job throughout the day of decreasing our unforced errors and locking in.”
