Owensboro left little doubt Friday night, routing Madisonville-North Hopkins 61-7 on the road to finish district play unbeaten and extend its winning streak to seven games.

The Maroons struck first on the opening drive with a flea-flicker touchdown pass, but it was all OHS from there.

Red Devils’ quarterback DaMarcus Ganaway Jr. connected with Kingston Dillard on the team’s first offensive play for a 67-yard score to even things at 7-7 less than three minutes into the game. After Xavier Conrad intercepted a Madisonville pass, Evan Hampton broke loose for a 37-yard touchdown run to give the Devils a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Ganaway and Dillard connected again midway through the second quarter, this time for a 63-yard touchdown on fourth down, though the extra point attempt was no good. Moments later, Ty Ashley scooped up a bad snap and returned it 52 yards for a defensive score, followed by a successful two-point conversion to make it 28-7.

Ganaway added a 28-yard touchdown strike to Hampton with under a minute left in the half, and another missed extra point attempt sent OHS to the locker room up 34-7. The defense capped the half with a sack by Kameron Payton.

The Red Devils continued to pour it on in the second half. Ganaway threw a 60-yard touchdown to Dillard, then hit Hampton again on a 78-yard screen pass for another score, although the extra point attempt was no good on the latter score. Ganaway later found Ayden Fountain for a 38-yard touchdown, stretching the lead to 54-7 by the end of the third quarter.

Zayden Baker recovered a fumble to set up the final blow, a long touchdown pass from backup quarterback Tyson Biggs to Khalil Shemwell.

Ganaway finished 13-21 with 374 yards and six touchdowns. Dillard caught five passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Hampton caught two passes for 106 yards, and both went for touchdowns; he added 58 yards and a score on the ground.

Owensboro hosts Henderson County next week to close the regular season.
