Two key cogs of Owensboro Catholic’s high-octane offense, it was only natural that Tristan French and Luke Thomas would sign their college commitment letters on the same day. French will be attending Lindsey Wilson University, while Thomas is taking his talents to Georgetown College.
“From the get-go, we had it planned,” French said. “It was nice signing with someone else.”
The duo only played together at Owensboro Catholic for one season, but they were instrumental in helping the Aces return to the 2A State Championship game for a third straight season and a 13-2 record.
An offensive lineman, French arrived at Owensboro Catholic in January of 2024 and immediately became a vital part of the offensive line. He plans to play center at the collegiate level, a position he takes pride in playing.
“I like snapping the ball, being in control of everything, and being the captain of the O-line,” French said. “I like protecting my quarterback. It is the only sport you get to protect somebody.”
During his recruitment process, French spoke with multiple schools, including Kentucky Wesleyan University and a few others, but acknowledged that Lindsey Wilson shares his values.
“It’s a really big family community,” French said. “It’s real tight knit, and I really love the campus. Everything there is set in stone. It is a Methodist school, so it’s Christian, so it’s part of my beliefs. Their football program is also pretty dang good.”
While at Lindsey Wilson, French plans to study business communications.
Thomas transferred to Owensboro Catholic this past season and fit seemingly into the offense – hauling in 58 receptions for 902 yards and eight touchdowns. While he played both sides of the ball in high school, he plans to focus on receiver at the next level.
Before the start of his junior year, Thomas received an offer from Georgetown, but he also spoke to multiple schools throughout his recruitment process, including Lindsey Wilson, Campbellsville University, and Thomas More University. Yet, it wasn’t until after the Aces State championship game earlier this season that he made his decision.
“I love the campus. The coaches were great to me and really convinced me,” Thomas said. “I love their offense, the fact they throw a lot, and everything about it.”
After hauling in six interceptions during his sophomore year at Union County, Thomas realized he had a chance to play at the next level. He subsequently quit wrestling and put all of his focus into football.
While at Georgetown, Thomas plans to study nursing.
“After football, I want to be a nurse anesthetist,” Thomas said. “I want to live in Lexington, and Georgetown is right near there.”
