Officials have released the cause of death for a 28-year-old inmate who died at the Daviess County Detention Center in August.
State Trooper Corey King, a public affairs officer with Kentucky State Police, confirmed Wednesday that the medical examiner ruled Dalton Gordon’s death as “acute (multidrug) intoxication.”
According to a previous release from the detention center, Gordon was found unresponsive in his cell around 5 a.m. Aug. 20. Deputies and on-site medical staff attempted lifesaving measures before emergency crews arrived, but Gordon was pronounced dead shortly after. The release said he was housed alone at the time.
The Kentucky State Police and the Daviess County Coroner’s Office have played a role in the investigation. Jailer Art Maglinger said he has been in continuous communication with state police and the Daviess County coroner’s office throughout the process.
He added the detention center is still conducting a policy review, which he plans to comment on once it is completed.
Gordon had been booked into the facility on Aug. 19 on a public intoxication charge. Read more about the initial incident here.
